Juice obtained by chewing is avidahi (does not cause burning sensation), allays vata and pitta, pleasant for oral cavity and is a spermatogenic.
Whereas one obtained through machine is heavy, vidahi (cause burning sensation) and vishtambhi (constipative) (Sushruta Samhita)
Botanical name - Saccharum officinarum Linn.
Rasa – Madhura (Sweet).
Roots/ lower end of sugarcane is excessively sweet, middle portion is sweet and the terminal or bud is salty to taste.
Guna – Guru (Heavy), Snigdha (Unctuous)
Vipaka – Madhura
Veerya – Sheeta (cool)
It is interesting to note that sugarcane in general cooling in nature but when the juice is extracted with help of machine it causes burning sensation.
So make sure to chew the sugarcane as a whole than having it's extracted juice from a machine.
